Derek Smedley has been in the wine trade since 1961, and became one of the elite group of Masters of Wine in 1968. During his career he has worked with Harveys of Bristol, and then Gilbey’s before becoming the senior wine buyer for Whitbread’s. In 1985 he set up his own wine merchant business which he sold in 1999. Since then he has been a consultant for many City organizations. He joined Edward Parker Wines in 2004 as our wine consultant and remains integral to our buying. The Wine Library is a compilation of Derek’s notes back over his many years of experience, giving an unprecedented access to his tasting notes, advised drinking dates and score out of 100. While you will find historical notes on all our wines herein, there are wines from far further a-field giving a great breathe of views from Derek.
